Does insurance cover addiction treatment at AdCare?

How do I verify my insurance benefits for addiction treatment?

There are three ways to check your coverage:

  1. Online: Use AdCare’s free benefits verification form at adcare.com/admissions to check your coverage in minutes.
  2. By phone: Call our admissions team at . We’ll review your benefits with you and explain what your plan is likely to cover.
  3. Through your insurer: Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask specifically about coverage for substance use disorder treatment, including inpatient detox, residential rehab, partial hospitalization (PHP), and intensive outpatient (IOP).

What does insurance typically cover at AdCare?

Coverage varies by plan, but most insurance policies will cover medically necessary levels of addiction care, which may include:

  • Medical detox — 24/7 medically supervised withdrawal management
  • Inpatient / residential treatment — structured, live-in rehabilitation programming
  • Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) — intensive day treatment without overnight stays
  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) — structured programming several days per week
  • Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) — including methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone protocols

The specific services covered, and for how long, depend on your individual plan and what your insurer determines to be medically necessary. AdCare’s admissions team can help you understand what to expect from your specific benefits.

What are deductibles, copays, and out-of-pocket maximums — and how do they affect my rehab costs?

These are the key cost-sharing terms you’ll encounter when using insurance for treatment:

  • Deductible: The amount you pay out of pocket before your insurance begins covering costs. Some plans apply the deductible to addiction treatment; others don’t.
  • Copay: A fixed dollar amount you pay per visit or service (e.g., $40 per outpatient session).
  • Coinsurance: Your share of costs after your deductible is met, expressed as a percentage (e.g., your plan pays 80%, you pay 20%).
  • Out-of-pocket maximum: The most you’ll pay in a plan year. Once you hit this limit, your insurance covers 100% of covered services.

Plans with lower monthly premiums often carry higher deductibles. Understanding these terms before admission helps you plan for costs and avoid surprises. AdCare’s admissions team can walk you through how your specific plan applies to treatment.

How long will insurance cover my treatment at AdCare?

Coverage duration varies by plan and is typically determined by medical necessity — meaning your insurer will evaluate whether continued treatment is clinically appropriate. Many plans cover a short-term detox stay plus several weeks to months of inpatient or outpatient care. Some plans impose annual limits (for example, up to 90 days of inpatient treatment per year). If additional treatment is needed within the same plan year, additional costs may need to be covered out of pocket.

AdCare offers programming across multiple levels of care — from detox and inpatient to PHP and IOP — so we can often help patients transition to a level of care their insurance will continue to support.

What if my insurance plan is out-of-network at AdCare?

If AdCare is not in-network with your specific plan, your insurance may still provide some coverage on an out-of-network basis, though your out-of-pocket costs will likely be higher. AdCare accepts many insurance plans on an out-of-network basis. Our admissions team can help you understand what your out-of-network benefits look like and what your estimated costs might be. Call to discuss your options.

What if I don’t have insurance? Can I still get treatment at AdCare?

Yes. AdCare has multiple options for patients without insurance coverage:

  • Payment plans: AdCare offers financing options that allow you to pay for treatment over time.
  • Loans: Healthcare loans through financial institutions can help cover treatment costs, often at lower interest rates than general-purpose loans.
  • Scholarships and grants: Some state and facility-level scholarships exist for patients with financial need.
  • State-funded programs: Many states, including Massachusetts and Rhode Island, offer state-funded or subsidized treatment options. SAMHSA’s Directory of Single State Agencies (SSA) for Substance Abuse Services can help identify programs in your state.
