About Our Inpatient Rehab Programs

About Inpatient Addiction Treatment At AdCare

At AdCare Treatment Centers in Rhode Island, we offer inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab. This level of care begins with a comprehensive evaluation of each patient’s individual situation and needs. This includes assessing the level of addiction, determining if there are any underlying medical or psychological conditions to be addressed, and developing a personal addiction treatment plan.

What Is Inpatient Addiction Treatment?

AdCare Treatment Center photo

is a form of intensive addiction treatment that allows for safe, stable housing with all-day programming and medical and addiction specialists available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Unlike AdCare’s outpatient addiction treatment options in New England, which are more flexible and counseling-based, our inpatient rehab in Rhode Island treats alcohol and drug addiction in a more structured, residential rehabilitation environment.

Some participants may need to complete our medical detox program before starting the rehabilitation phase.

Inpatient addiction treatment programs may include individual, group, and family therapy, case management services, support groups, and .1

The addiction treatment services rendered vary and are determined by factors specific to the individual and treatment facility. At our inpatient drug and alcohol rehab facility in Rhode Island, you can expect:

  • 5–7 hours of group therapy per day.
  • Health and wellness groups led by nurses and licensed medical staff.
  • Educational groups led by addiction specialists.
  • Process and focus support groups.
  • Relapse prevention services.
  • Meetings that follow the 12-Step model.
  • Counselors trained in and
  • Individual therapy at least once a week, usually more.
  • Family integration, including a family day and monthly family groups (in-person availability is subject to change due to COVID-19; family services may be via telehealth).
  • Treatment for co-occurring mental health disorders.

AdCare’s residential addiction treatment facility in RI provides family-style cooking, comfort food, and Sunday brunch, as well as a large dinner on Sunday evenings. Coffee, snacks, and juice are always available, and a nutritionist is on staff to help with meal planning.

Patients at our inpatient rehab facility can expect semi-private rooms, private baths, a fully equipped gym, and many other amenities. Recreational activities include:

  • Art
  • Acupuncture
  • Basketball
  • Music
  • Ping-pong
  • And more.

AdCare’s residential addiction treatment location also offers crisis stabilization, designated for patients with both addiction and serious psychiatric symptoms that require immediate care. Staff performs a psychiatric evaluation of the patient and determines what medications or therapies are needed to manage symptoms.

How Long Do You Stay in Inpatient Rehab for Addiction?

The length of inpatient rehab differs from person to person and can include:

Someone’s recommended stay in residential care depends on variables, such as age, type of substance(s) used, extent of addiction, and underlying mental or physical health conditions.

While any amount of professional addiction rehab may be beneficial and jumpstart a person’s recovery, studies show that staying in treatment for enough time is crucial to a person’s recovery and that, very often, people need at least 90 days to stop their substance use.2

At AdCare, we offer a full continuum rehab of care to keep you supported and engaged in your recovery after inpatient rehab.

What Happens After Inpatient Rehab?

Inpatient treatment is just one step in the recovery process. At our Rhode Island inpatient addiction treatment facility, we understand the importance of continued care after residential rehab ends, which is why our rehab aftercare planning starts on Day 1.

Upon admission to our residential rehab facility, each patient meets with our skilled clinicians and is assigned a case manager; this team works together to develop a treatment and follow-up plan tailored to the patient’s individual needs.

While inpatient drug and alcohol rehab is considered the most intensive form of addiction treatment, there are less intensive options as a person progresses along the continuum of care. Outpatient services include:

AdCare is uniquely equipped to help program graduates continue their recovery with aftercare plans and alumni connections. Additionally, case managers can arrange appointments for every patient with their primary care doctor, who can help manage follow-up and aftercare.

Does Health Insurance Cover Inpatient Addiction Rehab?

AdCare Treatment Center photo

Yes, most health insurance plans cover some form of inpatient addiction treatment in the New England area and throughout the United States. This is due, in part, to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and federal parity laws.3

The ACA is a form of insurance reform that expanded insurance coverage to include substance abuse treatment, deeming it an “essential benefit” on par with other types of routine medical care.3

Keep in mind that each health insurance plan is different, and insurance coverage for substance abuse treatment varies. You should check with your insurance carrier to determine the scope of your addiction treatment benefits in the New England region.

AdCare is in-network with many major insurers in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, including:

Our MA detox facility, AdCare Hospital, accepts both Medicare and Medicaid.

All Rhode Island AdCare facilities accept Rhode Island Medicaid (Rhode Island Medical Assistance).

How to Pay for Inpatient Addiction Treatment Without Insurance

If you don’t have health insurance or your plan doesn’t cover the entire cost of inpatient addiction treatment in New England, there are other ways to pay for rehab.

Depending on where you live, grants may be available to you to help offset the cost of rehab. You may also qualify for scholarships or other financial assistance plans.
