The Couples Project for Women is for women with a drug abuse problem who are married or live with a male partner. The study is conducted by researchers at Harvard Medical School and AdCare Hospital. Weekly one-on-one outpatient therapy for five-to-six months promotes women’s recovery from drug abuse.

Our counselors possess master’s degrees and a solid understanding of the disease of addiction. They work with clients to assess their needs and to develop individualized treatment plans that accommodate work and family schedules.
Open-Access Services
Individuals seeking treatment are assessed on the same day that they call for help. Open-access services include the following:
- Outpatient Detoxification Program (Worcester only) combines medical supervision during withdrawal with alcohol and drug abuse treatment to achieve abstinence.
- Day Treatment Program (Worcester only) offers six hours of treatment per day seven days a week. Activities include individual and group counseling; educational sessions, skills groups and self-help participation.
- Intensive Outpatient Program – Day and Evening – offers three to four hours of treatment per session from three to six days per week or

Some women also receive couples counseling to promote recovery and improve communication. Counseling is free of charge. The study involves interviews with the woman and her male partner before treatment and every three months for one year following treatment.
